Bike: BMW K1200RS Round Trip km: +/- 140
Venue: Breakfast at Harries Pancakes Breakfast Cost: +- R50.00
Rating (1 - 5): 5+ (This is the BEST) Status: Verified
Departure From: The Woodsman restaurant in Sabie
Route Type: Incredible BLAST!  This is why we ride bikes!
Comments: There are a few restaurants in Sabie and Graskop to choose from, our favourite in Sabie is The Woodsman and the Wimpy is also always good.  In Graskop, Harries Pancakes is our favourite
Outward Bound:
  • Leave Sabie and take the legendary Sabie - Hazyview road (R536).  This has got to be the best biking road in the country.  BUT watch out for the Vervet Monkeys in the early morning, we've seen too many of them run down by bikes and left bleeding in the road.

  • The road is brilliant despite the shiny "snakes" in the tar (only a concern in the shaded areas when the dew is on them).

  • After 20km you will get to the Kiepersol turn-off.  Many bikers turn around here and do it again and again and again.

  • Once you have finished playing,  carry on (don't go to Kiepersol)  - the road becomes a little rough but is still very good - and continue until the T-Junction at Hazyview.

  • Turn left towards Bushbuckridge and again immediately left towards Graskop on the R535.  This is a high-speed road with sweeping bends and a superb surface.  Watch out for logging trucks at the saw mills and coming out of the forests

  • At the T-Junction, turn Left towards Graskop which takes you through Kowyns Pass (stunning) and into Graskop itself.  Harries Pancakes are on the road out towards God's Window and Blydepoort.

  • God's Window and the Blydepoort Canyon are always worth a visit

Going Back:

You can go back the way you came

OR

Via Mac-Mac Falls

  • Go through back through Graskop and take the turn-off to Pilgrim's Rest / Sabie

  • This will take you past the turn-off to Pilgrim's Rest which is always worth a visit and has some good places for a meal.  (See our route to Lydenburg via Pilgrims) keep left and carry on to Sabie via Mac-Mac Falls and Mac-Mac Pools
